SATtalks and Missions 3.0 Symposium
October 16-18, 2019
For all who believe sustainable change and church missions go together!
We need the stories of pioneers working with new models of church missions as a way to help us picture what could be. You’ll be inspired and challenged by the speakers as well as the people you get to rub shoulders with over the three days.
We believe bringing smart people with a common interest in solving similar problems together accelerates the learning curve for all. Join us and bring your whole missions team to SATtalks and Missions 3.0 Pre-Conference.

The Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) is a real-life, hands-on simulation that offers participants a glimpse into the lives of low-income individuals and families living in their community. It’s a compelling look into the obstacles that are faced, the decisions that are made, and the consequences that impact these families every day. This three-hour simulation is one of the most effective ways a congregation can begin to reframe their understanding of poverty.
We have turned the poor into objects of our charity and compassion instead of seeing them as the subjects and protagonists of their own story. When we understand the dignity of the human person endowed with creative capacity and made in the image of God it changes absolutely everything about the way we understand charity, missions, development and the poor. This workshop will help you see why human flourishing is the only real answer to material poverty.
This afternoon workshop unpacks many of the lessons learned through the Cost of Poverty Experience and explores the five essential practices essential for any program, ministry, or initiative to effectively address poverty with lasting results. When these practices become habits, communities are more empowered to reach their potential.
What does it take for a church to be a transforming presence in the town square? Reflecting on past times when the church was a leading voice in social and cultural transformation as well as his church’s own journey, Pastor Tim Rogers will explore ways the church could regain that influence today.
This is a roundtable discussion for business-minded people trying to figure out how to work with their church’s mission around sustainable solutions. We’ll explore things like Business as Mission (BAM), enterprise solutions to poverty and ways to better engage the business-minded people of a church to the work of missions. Significant Matters will facilitate the conversation and draw on the experiences of some of this year’s presenters.
